About Us

Our members

The Durham Trillium Quilters' Guild welcomes people of all ages, genders/identifications, and quilting skill levels.

Our guild is a non-profit organization with the following aims and objectives:

  • To enhance the knowledge of quilting within the group and the community.
  • To preserve quilting as an art form.
  • To establish, maintain, and upgrade quilting standards.
  • To encourage an exchange of ideas and methods.
  • To participate in community projects.

How we got started

The Durham Trillium Quilters' Guild was formed in 1986 by some women who wanted to establish a quilting guild outside of Toronto. Initially, the group met at each others' homes, but eventually the interest and membership grew to the point where they had to relocate to a larger facility.

When we were meeting in person, we met at the Zion Christian Reformed Church in Oshawa. We plan to meet there again, once COVID allows gatherings again. Our virtual meetings officially start at 7:00 PM, but our "virtual doors" open at 6:30 PM for a virtual social get together before the actual meeting.

What we do

Each month we have a vibrant program with guest speakers, quilt Show & Shares, trunk shows, and more . . .

  • Block of the Month - a pattern is chosen each year and is handed out as the year progresses by emailing clues to participants each month. To be included in the monthly prize draw, bring in your completed parts!
  • Cuddle Quilt Program - collects and distributes quilts for charities in the Durham area.
  • Fabric Exchange Club - monthly exchange of fabric (currently restricted due to COVID)
  • Kudo Strips - a way to share a celebratory event in your life with the guild. As "payment" for this, please bring a 20-inch x 2 1/2-inch strip of fabric. This fabric gets used in quilts that are donated to charities and those in need in our community.
  • Library - there are many recent books and magazines to browse through and borrow for a month (in person only – COVID borrowing program is currently being developed)
  • Show & Share - bring in your most recently completed project, whether it is a completed quilt or just the quilt top to show a new skill, technique, or just to say "it's done." We're always in your corner!

Guild Meetings

The Durham Trillium Quilters Guild meets the second Monday of every month, from September through June. For the 2022-2023 guild year, in-person meetings will resume with virtual meetings planned for 3 winter months.  Virtual meetings will be resumed if required due to COVID-19 restrictions.

For in person meetings, the doors open at 6:45 PM and the meeting starts at 7:00 PM.  For virtual meetings, our meetings open at 6:30 PM for a virtual chat and get-together, and the actual event starts at 7:00 PM.

If a 2nd Monday of the month conflicts with a holiday, a new date will be determined for that meeting and will be communicated to members and posted on this website.

2022-2023 Meeting Dates

The guild will resume in-person meetings in September of 2022, although we plan to have 3 of the winter meetings virtually in 2023.  For virtual meetings, meeting invitations will be sent via email to members prior to each meeting. The following is our schedule for our guild presentations:
